King Super-20 Tenor Saxophone

I purchased this horn on James Moody’s birthday (March 26) in 1988.  The funny thing is that I didn’t realize this was Moody’s birthday until more than a decade later.  There are no accidents.  The fact that Moody played a King is the primary reason I purchased the horn.

This horn is a monster!  It’s circa 1953/54, with a silver, dual-socket neck and a bass bell.  The legendary Johnny Griffin played the same vintage for an extended period.

I was considering selling this baby, as I craved “French” bore and modern ergonomics at the time.  Thank God I listened to my “inner voice” and held on.

Long tones and consistent shedding are the answer.
